Class Policies

Registration Policy

To provide the best experience for every student, each class has a minimum enrollment and a maximum capacity based on available studio space. Classes are filled in the order that registrations with full payment are received. Final decisions about whether a class will run are made approximately 72 hours before the first class, so early registration is encouraged.

For your convenience, we accept cash, checks, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.

Unless otherwise noted, all experience levels are welcome, so whether you're trying something new or building on existing skills, there's a spot for you.

Most classes include all materials in the registration fee. If you'll need to bring any additional supplies, we'll provide a supply list before your class begins.

As part of our creative community, you and your artwork may occasionally be photographed or recorded for use in Hoyt publications, social media, or other promotional materials.

Late Registration

If space is still available, you're welcome to join a class after the first session. However, please note that tuition and materials fees are not prorated, and the full class fee applies.

Class Changes & Cancellations

We understand that plans can change.

If you'd like to switch to another class, simply contact the Main Office at 724.652.2882 before either class has met twice. We'll be happy to transfer your registration at no charge, provided space is available. If the new class has a different tuition or materials fee, you'll simply pay the difference (or receive a refund if applicable). Transfers cannot be made once the second class has begun.

Occasionally, a class may be canceled due to low enrollment. If this happens, we'll notify you approximately 48 hours before the first class and issue a full refund. To provide the best learning experience, the Hoyt also reserves the right to combine classes or substitute instructors when necessary.

Membership & Financial Assistance

A Hoyt membership is a great way to stay connected to our creative community while enjoying discounts on classes, workshops, and purchases in the Museum Gift Shop. Membership benefits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and are non-transferable. For more info visit our Membership pages.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the arts. Through the Hoyt's participation in the national Museums for All program, EBT cardholders automatically qualify for 50% off eligible classes and workshops.

Additional tuition assistance of up to 100% is available for children, teens, adults, and seniors who demonstrate financial need. Applications must be received at least one week before the first day of class, and some materials fees may still apply.

To help as many people as possible participate, tuition assistance is currently limited to one class and one workshop per person, per session and one week of camp over the summer. Because classes have limited enrollment, recipients are expected to attend regularly. Failure to attend the first class without advance notice or repeated absences may result in forfeiture of the household’s scholarship award. More info here.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

The safety of every child is our highest priority.

Children ages 3–12 must be escorted to and from their classroom by a parent, guardian, or authorized adult each day. Please be sure your child is checked in with the instructor before leaving.

If you would like your child age 13 or older to dismiss independently or meet you outside the classroom, please provide written permission to the instructor before the start of the program.

If someone other than a parent or guardian will be picking up your child, please notify the instructor or Main Office in advance.

Studio Use Policy for Enrolled Students

Students currently enrolled in ceramics and stained glass are welcome to use their studio outside of scheduled class time during regular business hours.

To help ensure the space is available for everyone, please note:

The studio may only be used when another class is not in session.
Please finish your work and leave the studio one hour before the next class begins or 30 minutes before the building closes, whichever comes first.
Sign in and out at the Reception Desk each time you use the studio.
Open studio access is for practicing skills learned in class and to complete class projects. It is not intended for commercial or business use.
Open studio privileges apply only to students enrolled in multi-week classes and do not include one-day workshops.
Before you leave, please clean your work area and return all tools and equipment to their proper place.

Studio Access Program for Artists

The Studio Access Program is designed for artists who want continued access to professional studio space, equipment, and a creative community. Whether you're refining your skills, completing personal projects, or continuing the work you began in class, you'll have the resources you need to keep creating. An active Hoyt Membership is required to participate. Cost is $75/mo.

Ceramics Studio

Year-round access during designated open studio hours. Hours may change seasonally.
Use of studio tools, equipment, glazes, and scheduled kiln firings
25 lbs. of clay each month, with additional clay available for an additional fee.
Dedicated shelf space for works in progress

Stained Glass Studio

Year-round access during designated open studio hours. Hours may change seasonally.
Use of studio tools, equipment, solder, copper foil, and patinas
Bring your own glass or purchase glass from the Hoyt at a discounted price. Loose glass in the bins is free.
Dedicated shelf space for ongoing projects

PROGRAM GUIDELINES

To ensure a safe, productive experience for everyone:

Participants must maintain an active Hoyt Membership while enrolled in the Studio Access Program.
Studio access is available only during designated open studio hours.
Participants are expected to work independently and use only equipment they have been trained to operate safely.
Studio access is intended for personal artistic practice and may not be used for teaching classes or commercial production.
Please clean your workspace, return all tools and equipment, and leave the studio ready for the next artist.
Storage is limited to your assigned shelf space. Unclaimed items may be removed after reasonable notice.
The Hoyt reserves the right to suspend Studio Access Program privileges for failure to follow studio safety guidelines or program policies.
