Special Events

Help create some of Hoyt's most anticipated community celebrations!  Whether you're interested in planning behind the scenes or being part of the excitement on event day, each one of these events offers a role for you.

• Host Committee
  Help build excitement and attendance for signature events like Ignite and the Kentucky Derby! Host Committee members invite friends and colleagues, promote events within the community, encourage attendance, and assist with ticket sales to help ensure each event's success.
• Event Committee
  Work alongside Hoyt staff to plan and produce our signature events! Committee members help develop activities, coordinate logistics, secure sponsorships and raffle donations, recruit volunteers, and assist with event implementation from concept to completion. 
• Event Day Volunteers
  ‍Be part of the action on the day of the event. Volunteers help with setup and decorating, welcome guests, staff activity stations, assist with registration and wayfinding, support vendors and performers, sell raffle tickets, and help with cleanup. Flexible shifts are available, making it easy to lend a hand, even if you only have a few hours.

Community Events

Support memorable experiences for thousands of children and families throughout the year. From guiding hands-on art activities and greeting visitors to assisting with setup, wayfinding, and cleanup, event volunteers play an essential role in making the Hoyt's community programs welcoming, organized, and enjoyable. Whether you're lending a hand at the Children's Summer Arts Festival, helping bring stories to life during Scary Tales, or spreading holiday cheer at our Annual Holiday Open House, you'll help create moments that inspire creativity, curiosity, and connection.

Docent

Bring history to life by sharing the stories behind the themed tours in the Alexander Crawford Hoyt Period House. Each year, a new theme transforms the visitor experience by connecting the home's architecture, collections, and history in fresh and engaging ways - giving guests a reason to return again and again. Our next tour, Knock on Wood, explores the fascinating origins of the beliefs, rituals, and folklore that shaped everyday life in early America. Training and tour materials are provided, making this a rewarding opportunity for those who enjoy storytelling, history, and connecting with other people.

Looking for a meaningful team-building experience? Businesses, civic organizations, schools, and community groups can volunteer together on projects that support the Hoyt's mission. Opportunities range from landscaping and seasonal decorating to painting, event preparation, public art projects and other hands-on tasks that make a lasting impact.
