Emerging Artist Program
The Emerging Artists Program is designed to help youth ages 13–18 from Lawrence and Mercer counties gain valuable experience and insight into exhibiting artwork in a professional setting.
Participants work closely with Hoyt Arts Center staff to develop a cohesive body of work for exhibition at public venues such as the New Castle Public Library, UPMC Jameson, or other community spaces.
This includes exploring a consistent theme - whether through content, medium, or both - to create a unified exhibition. While having an existing body of work is helpful, it is not required; the program is structured to guide participants through the full process of building an exhibition from the ground up.
Participants Will:
- Utilize studio space to create and refine their artwork
- Receive free access to classes and workshops in their area of interest
- Gain guidance in writing an artist statement and/or biography, along with support in framing, installation, invitations, and press outreach
- Participate in regular Zoom or phone check-ins, with ongoing mentorship throughout the process
Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed by the Hoyt’s Art Committee in January, July, and October. There is no application fee. Selections are based on demonstrated artistic talent, commitment to the program, and the ability to develop a cohesive body of work (approximately 24 pieces).
