Family Workshop: Clay Ornaments
Bring the family for a hands-on workshop where we turn simple clay into holiday magic. We'll use cookie cutters, stamps, and our own two hands to craft ornaments that are as unique as your family. It's messy, it's fun, and you'll leave with beautiful, handmade treasures ready to hang on the tree.
Capacity: 20 students. Minimum: 8 students.
Known to her younger students as “Miss Paige,” Paige Kleinfelder brings creativity, energy, and a deep love for the arts to her role as Education Director. She plans and manages a wide range of educational programs for all ages including After School Arts and Summer Art Camp. Paige first joined the Hoyt in 2017 as Assistant Education Coordinator and has since worn many hats, including Outreach Director. Along the way, she’s continued to lead favorite programs like Art’s Club and Creative Play workshops.
A graduate of Elmira College with a degree in Studio Art, Paige previously served as Education Coordinator for the Butler Art Center. She’s also an accomplished painter whose oil works – often inspired by local signs and landmarks – can be seen on display at the Lawrence County Courthouse.
It's like playing in the mud – only better! Young artists will use their hands and their imagination to create bowls, mugs, lanterns, masks, plates, animals, boxes, and more. They'll learn basic hand-building techniques while shaping, sculpting, and decorating their own one-of-a-kind creations. Dress for play – things might get a little messy! All materials are included.
Capacity: 12 students. Minimum: 6 students. Ages: 6–12.
Explore the possibilities of clay in this fun, hands-on ceramics class. Learn hand-building, wheel throwing, and glazing as you create unique pottery from start to finish. Whether you're new to ceramics or building your skills, you'll enjoy exploring new techniques in a supportive studio environment.
Your tuition includes 25 pounds of clay, glazing, and firing. Additional clay may be purchased for $75 per 25-pound bag. The ceramics studio is available for independent work outside of class during open studio hours (Tuesday–Thursday, 11 a.m.–7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.–3:30 p.m.). Outside clay is not permitted. To allow time for finishing and firing, all wet work must be completed by Week 6, trimming is done during Week 7, and glazing takes place in Week 8.
