Our Center

The Hoyt Arts Center is one of the most recognizable historic estates northwest of Pittsburgh, featuring the two Hoyt family mansions connected by a picturesque breezeway.

Designed by Frank Foulk, a prominent architect from New Castle, both Hoyt East (built for May Emma Hoyt) and our Hoyt West Period House (built for her brother Alex Crawford Hoyt and his wife, June) are beautiful examples of the Revival Styles popular at the turn of the 20th century. Both homes were completed in the spring of 1917 and are now part of New Castle’s North Hill Historic District, the third-largest historic district in Pennsylvania.

Built in the Tudor Revival style, our Hoyt West Period House remains thoughtfully preserved, a picture of upper-middle-class life in Lawrence County in the early 20th century. Visitors can explore the house's architecture, collections, and stories through guided and self-guided tours, as well as special holiday events. Hoyt East has been transformed into a dynamic community hub for the arts, hosting our arts classes, events, festivals, and our free exhibition galleries. While the Colonial Revival architecture of May Emma Hoyt’s estate has been maintained, the building is now home to both art galleries and studio space where children can play and learn, musicians can practice, and artists can get their hands dirty.
